Warrior Highlight
Meet Ava!
At just 18 months old, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma—an aggressive and relentless form of pediatric cancer. For more than three and a half years, Ava and her mom, Chrisie, traveled across the country in search of the best possible care. Through every trial and every hospital stay, Ava showed incredible strength as she endured treatments more intense than many adult cancer patients ever face.
But the toll was devastating. Her teeth began to deteriorate, her hair fell out, and eventually, her kidneys failed. In her final days, Ava’s family stood by as her fragile body could no longer keep fighting. Chrisie will never forget the heartbreaking moment when Ava looked up and said, “Mommy, I don’t want to feel like this anymore.” Two days later, Ava passed away. She was just five years old.
We know Ava’s story so intimately because it belongs to our founder and president, Chrisie Abramo. She knows firsthand the unimaginable pain of losing a child to cancer. It’s what makes our mission at Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children so personal—and so powerful.
Saying goodbye to a child is the hardest thing a parent can face. That’s why end-of-life services are among the most sacred and essential things we offer. In those darkest moments, we are committed to surrounding families with compassion, dignity, and care.
“When I lost Ava, I didn’t give up hope,” Chrisie shares. “I knew our story wasn’t unique—every family facing childhood cancer walks a hard road. That’s what drives me to honor Ava’s legacy by offering direct support to others on this journey, bringing light and hope where it’s needed most.”
This month, we celebrate Ava—the brave little girl whose strength and spirit inspired the founding of ACFC. Her legacy lives on in every family we serve, every life we touch, and every act of kindness made in her honor.
Program Highlights
Throughout the month of June, ACFC hosted Warrior Wednesdays, bringing together over 150 children for days filled with creativity, laughter, and lasting memories. From an epic LEGO-building contest to colorful tie-dye making, cookie decorating, bath bomb creating, and so much more—every moment was filled with joy and connection.
We’re incredibly grateful to our amazing community partners, especially Barro’s, for their continued support in making events like this possible. Because of you, our warriors and their families get to experience these moments of happiness and laughter.
Last month marked 11 incredible years of hope, healing, and heart at Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children. For over a decade, we’ve had the privilege of standing beside families facing pediatric cancer—offering vital support, joyful experiences, and a caring community every step of the way.
As we reflect on this milestone, we’re filled with deep gratitude for the donors, volunteers, and partners who have helped make our mission possible.
Here’s to 11 amazing years—and the continued journey ahead. Stay tuned for special celebrations and opportunities to join us in making an even greater impact!

We’re incredibly grateful to The Saguaros and AZ Complete Health for their generous support of our mission. As we continue to grow and strengthen relationships with community partners, we’re reminded that it’s through collaboration that we can make the greatest impact. Together, we’re bringing hope, support, and meaningful change to families facing pediatric cancer.
Volunteer Spotlight
Meet Lineve!
Lineve has been volunteering with ACFC for the past year and a half. Her passion for giving back is rooted in her own personal journey. As a retired registered professional nurse and a two-time cancer survivor, Lineve was looking for a way to stay connected to the cancer community and make a difference. “I was looking for a volunteer opportunity that involves cancer,” she shared. When she found ACFC through her son who attended the Ava’s Tree House Gala, she knew it was the perfect fit. One of the things Lineve enjoys most about volunteering is the variety and flexibility. “I never know how my services will be utilized,” she said. Whether she’s helping at events or supporting behind the scenes, ACFC is incredibly thankful for Lineve’s dedication. Thank you, Lineve!
